Donald Trump’s attitude to AI can be summed up with just three words: “Let it rip”. But his hands-off approach to the technology is becoming increasingly unsustainable. The Economist’s editor-in-chief, Zanny Minton Beddoes, believes it will take a Chernobyl-like disaster to regulate AI. But, she adds, history shows it’s possible to strike the right balance between safety and speed.
