The former Ukraine defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov has told the BBC he stands by his call for nationwide elections even though the country is at war.
Fedorov, a popular minister who modernised the military and pioneered drone warfare, was fired last month after reportedly falling out with the head of Ukraine's armed forces.
In a video released online earlier in the week, he said "democracy should not be the hostage of Putin" and accused individuals in the government of corruption.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says he believes wartime elections would currently be too dangerous for Ukraine in remarks released on Sunday.
