Last week, a piece on Wired called SNL’s favorite band, Geese, just that. The band’s marketing team used some pretty outrageous tactics to get their name into the public eye: like burner accounts, trend simulation, and manufactured discourse. Geese isn’t the only band whose marketing teams are embracing new online tools to get ears on new music. So, is it fair to call one of America's most successful rock bands this past decade an industry plant? And does it matter if they are?
