We finally got to take a look at a prototype of the barebones, base-model EV Slate truck. Slate says it's offering a blank slate of an EV truck without the usual vehicle features one might expect, like a stereo or power windows. The motive behind this is to cut down on the price and also allow users to completely customize and add whatever features they want from the ground up when ordering. The Slate was originally slated to sell for under $20,000 but because the Big Beautiful Bill removed the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, the price has been bumped up to the mid-$20,000 range. Slate still plans to have production models for sale by the end of 2026. We'll have more coverage of the Slate on TheVerge.com coming soon.
