The weekend launch of Swatch's 'Royal Pop' collaboration with Audemars Piguet was overshadowed by scuffles that broke out in long queues outside stores. The collection of colourful pocket watches went on sale on Saturday at selected Swatch branches globally.
But the release led to chaotic scenes outside stores in London, Paris, Cardiff, Milan, Zurich and New York.
Much of the social media backlash focused on accusations that opportunists — rather than genuine collectors — dominated the launch, intending to flip the timepieces for a quick profit.
