The New York Times Magazine polled more than 250 music insiders and gathered six Times critics to choose the 30 Greatest Living American Songwriters. Shane McAnally, Brandy Clark and Josh Osborne made the list as a trio of Nashville writers who often collaborate on some of country’s best songs. They sat down with the critic Jody Rosen to talk about how co-writing works, songwriting as a day job, and the art of telling simple truths in a single line.
