James Talarico, a state representative and seminarian, won the Democratic Senate primary in Texas on Tuesday, prevailing over Representative Jasmine Crockett in a race that drew record turnout and was roiled by Election Day rule changes. Crockett issued a statement Wednesday morning conceding the nomination and calling for Democrats to unite behind Talarico.
His win was called early Wednesday after confusion over legal challenges about voting in Dallas County, the state’s second most populous county and Crockett’s base of support.
