US President Donald Trump will attend a meeting with Japan to discuss tariffs, American military support, and "trade fairness".
The US Treasury and Commerce departments are leading the discussions, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent prioritizing Japan and envisioning agreements with Japan and other military allies to apply economic pressure on China.
China has not committed to talks yet, but has expressed willingness to start discussions under certain conditions, including more respect from the US and a designated point person for talks. Bloomberg's Tyler Kendall reports.
