|  Bashar al-Assad’s downfall in Syria has given families of Syrian detainees hope that they escaped the regime’s prisons. Fighters from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the rebel group that led the offensive to push Assad out of power, say they are now securing these prisons and making sure that no evidence is stolen or destroyed. 
WSJ’s Ben C. Solomon visited a former Military Intelligence Branch prison in Damascus to follow a desperate search for clues, and in the process makes a grim discovery.
