MotorTrend Group CEO & President Alex Wellen joins Catalysts to discuss the impact of tariffs and broader trends within the auto industry. "Tariffs' goal is, at the end of the day, to make us more reliant on our domestic manufacturing and sales," he tells Yahoo Finance. However, he points out that the auto industry relies on a global supply chain, which makes this current goal unachievable at the moment. "Long-term, it may end up being something that really helps consumers and automakers, but in the short term, I think a lot of those costs will likely get passed on." With MotorTrend picking the Dodge Ram 1500 as the Truck of the Year, Wellen notes it was "a little unexpected" with it being an internal combustion engine (ICE) car. Yet, it was "a real winner," beating out other electric vehicles and saying it "indicates where we are" and shows "what people need." "We always say at MotorTrend that EVs are inevitable, but I think it's just going to be a longer road than we thought," Wellen adds.
